Merge chair
Designed for Bolia, 2023
The design of Merge started with the idea of designing a simple yet refined chair completely made of solid wood.
We aimed for a mono-material, honest product, durable both in terms of quality and style. Merge's petite proportions allow it to place many chairs around a table and make it suitable for all dining situations. Using solid wood we focused on enhancing the nature of the material with smooth and welcoming volumes that can be obtained with CNC manufacturing technologies. The collection is completed by a dining armchair, where the tactile features of the smooth solid wood volumes are particularly enhanced in the design of the armrests.
In a second design phase, we developed upholstered versions of the Merge chair and armchair. In these new versions, in order to guarantee the same durability of solid wood, which can be easily repaired and maintained, we designed all the upholstered parts so that they can be dismounted and replaced if fabric wears out over time. This functional requirement becomes evident in the design of the upholstered backrest, which is fixed to the legs with two visible brass screws, a honest solution that also acquires a decorative connotation. Product maintenance and durability is a central topic in our collaboration with Bolia, the single replacement components of the chairs can be purchased directly on the company website.
