Arke sofa

Arke is an outdoor lounge series, characterized by curvy volumes and modularity.
Arke was initially designed as a casual outdoor lounge chair, with a focus on generous and welcoming volumes. In a second design phase we have expanded the series, transforming it in a modular sofa system, with the possibility of creating big sofa configurations, as well as using middle sections as single lounge chairs. Big stitches highlight the voluminous curves of the geometry. We have designed the fabric cover so that it can be removed and washed or replaced over time. Arke intends to be a flexible outdoor product, allowing a wide number of configurations.
Designing a product intended for relaxed outdoor situations in summertime, we started the project with an expressive research on forms that communicate a sense of welcome and lazy relaxation. The product development involved a close collaboration with the manufacturer, with the production of several mockups and prototypes, to reach the intended level of comfort and to design a fabric cover that is easily removable. The design of the inner structure of the sofa and the use of open-cell outdoor foam allow water to flow through, without stagnation, for a highly durable product in spite of some rainy days.
